Deja Vu

A walk around to the back of the school created a sense of deja vu.  One crew is continuing work on the cafeteria and new office area while another is demolishing the old "intermediate" hallway.
The exterior walls have been torn down on the village side of the back hallway.  The walls that are common between each classroom are the load bearing walls and won't be torn down.  This allows the classrooms to remain the same size after the renovation.

The brick facade is being torn down.  This was formerly Mrs. Pleasants' classroom.

This classroom is on the gazebo side of the property.

The back hoe removes the ceiling tile frames.

Workers are busy in the classrooms removing hidden ceiling tiles.

What a mess!

Piles of debris are removed by the small bulldozer.

Outside

The large hole at the end of the old hallway is being filled.
The back side of the gym is receiving a footer for the new brick that will go up.

The front side of the gym has a new footer that will support the wall for the new classrooms.

The family resource center is getting its remaining walls.

Workers continue installing drainage components in the parking lot.

More footers for the new classroom that will be on the first floor.

Media Center

Painters have begun work in the media center.

A fresh coat of paint begins to give the media center a sense of completion.

Covers for the support columns lie waiting to be installed.

The embellishments are looking fresh and clean.

The reading center waits to be completed.

Administrative Offices

The glass display case has been delivered.

The interior hallway doors have been installed.

The first office in the new area has a glass enclosure.

This is the view from the area where Mrs. Vogler will greet our guests.

Another view of the first office

The first room on the right as you enter the office is our new conference room.

A door frame is being installed in the old car hallway.

Inside

Drywall studs have been installed in the cafeteria.

New brick is being laid in the hallway that leads into the cafeteria.  This is the wall that had the Golden Award bulletin board.

This is the same wall.  You can see the old entrance to the cafeteria on the far right.

This was formerly the doorway to the OT room.  The water fountain was under the white box on the left.  This area will be home to our new stairwell.

A worker removes the door frame that is by our temporary office.

This is what remains of the boys' and girls' restrooms by the elevator.

The old stairwell will now house our new elevator.

This is what remains of the workroom.

Notice the colorful paint on the wall.  This area was formerly the staff restrooms.

Teacher mailboxes and some of the server equipment have been removed.

This is what is left of the teacher lounge, library, and computer lab.

The large interior windows in the library have been removed.

And the Walls...Come Tumblin', Tumblin' Down

The demolition of the cafeteria and gym walls has begun.  These walls are being knocked down to prepare for the addition of a new stage area that will be added between the two areas.

This is a view of the cafeteria as seen from the return tray window.

Superintendent Darren spent Saturday afternoon knocking out the upper part of the cafeteria wall.  The blue doors were previously the entrance to the gym.

The new hole from the other side of the building.

It's the brightest that the cafeteria has ever been.

Another view of the same hole.

The gym wall that used to have the restroom doors has been demolished.

Notice the bright sound tiles in the ceiling.

A Quick Tour Around the Outside

If you were to take a stroll around the perimeter of our building,  you will see many changes that are taking place.

This is a giant dirt pile and deep hole that are at the end of the old hallway.

The sidewalk and canopy that were at the end of the old hallway are now gone.

The back steps that led to the village and play area were jackhammered this week.  If you were anywhere around Clays Mill you could have heard the noise.

The grass has been removed from the area against the back of the building.

The blacktop that was in the back of the building has been removed.

The walkway to the temporary hallway has been torn up.

This is one of the concrete fixtures that were put into the ground on the Cardinal Lane side of the parking lot.  The unit is actually about 10 feet down and is attached to drain pipes.  The runoff from the parking lot goes through the drain pipes and then the sediment settles in the bottom of this concrete unit.  When it needs to be emptied, the manhole is opened.

This is a view of the back of the gym and kitchen.  The outer sidewalks have been removed.

The fire hydrant that was installed last summer and then removed is now back.  It is located toward the top of the parking lot.  It will eventually be in a median.

Current view of the new square footage

The last of the remaining canopy and sidewalks have been removed.

The sidewalk and railing all the way to the bus lane have been removed.

Such a different look

Piles of sidewalk rubble

The upper sidewalk and rails have been removed.  The concrete to the left is the perimeter of the new preschool playground that will be installed.
