New Hallway

The construction team worked diligently to make sure that we would have the new temporary hallway completed in order to be used for the start of school.  The team worked several hours past quitting time.

Eco Friendly

Concrete trucks will be coming and going at CME as the building progresses.  As part of an effort to be eco-friendly, Lexington has an ordinance that when the concrete trucks wash out their chute they have to put it into this wash out 'area' instead of putting it on the ground.  When the concrete dries, it is then removed and disposed of with other debris. 

Finishing the Grease Trap

To complete the installation of the grease trap, workmen finished installing the pipes and covers. 

After the 'tomb' for the grease trap was put in, large pipes were added to the top. 

Workers struggled with aligning the covers in order to bolt them down. 

Next, gravel was put down to fill in the trench. 

The next step included putting in concrete to complete the process. 

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL FOR CLAYS MILL ELEMENTARY

Please read below to see how the arrival and dismissal for Clays Mill students will be this year.  Please remember that we all must be flexible and things may have to be adjusted throughout the year based on our renovation schedule.

Car Riders
              All students* arriving in the morning will enter through the front door.  Bus riders will dismount in the bus lane and will then follow the sidewalk around to the front door. 
             Bike riders may chain their bikes to the small black fence that is beside the flag.  Please turn the bike sideways against the fence so that others may still use the sidewalk. 
        **Walkers who come onto CME property via the bridges from the back track area may continue to do so.  These students may go straight to a classroom in the village or enter the building through the back door. 
             Students entering from the front door that need to eat breakfast will do so before they go to their classrooms. 
            All students will then go up the stairs by the elevator and down the hallway to their classroom.  Students that have a classroom in the village will go down the hallway and out the back door. 

Dismissal
            All students in the village will be brought into the building by their teacher and taken to their appropriate pickup location.  Walkers and car riders will wait until they are called to be dismissed.  Any parents that are picking up students at a door need to be at the front lobby door.  Please wait outside because the lobby will be filled with students.  There will be no students dismissed out the back door to walk toward the Mary Queen end of Clays Mill. 
        **Any students that travel home via the bridges by the track that are in the village classrooms will be dismissed at approximately 2:20 pm from the village.       

Gotta' Have a Grease Trap

In order to have a new kitchen there are some prep items that are necessary.  On Monday a new grease trap was being installed in the ground directly behind the kitchen. 

A small crane lifts and then sets the concrete grease trap into the ground. 

The worker has to make sure the trap is sitting in the ground properly.  Notice the PVC pipe that leads to the trap. 

The workers are making sure that the trap is level in the ground.

Front Classrooms

Work continues on the walls for the front hallway classrooms. 


Worker Hunter knocks out blocks in order to prepare the area for the mason workers to begin.  This is the classroom at the front corner of the building. 

Half of the wall is complete.

Three of the remaining classrooms in the front hallway now have a wall.  Yea!!

Progress of the New Hallway

The construction team has been busy getting the new hallway in the cafeteria ready for students and staff to use on Thursday.  Here's the progress from the past week.

After the new wall was completed for the kitchen, the team came in and removed the temporary wall. 

This is the new wall that students will be seeing when they come into the cafeteria. 

Masoners begin working on the back door of the hallway.  The door will be inset into the building. 

Back inside, Josh is busy shoveling up the debris.  Meanwhile Monty has sanded the concrete block wall and is patching small imperfections in the block.  A seemingly tedious task, but Monty assured me that it would make a big difference when the wall was painted. 

Here is the inside of the hallway.  The doorway is where the blue double doors for the Primetime closet used to be. 

At this point, it's easy to tell how the door will be inset into the outside wall.
