Amazing Transformations

As we prepared to go back to school last week, the construction teams were VERY busy making sure the building had everything that we needed.  Just see for yourself....

I think this is how the construction supervisors must feel everytime someone asks if the work is on schedule.

Before.....

after.  The letters went up on Friday.

The skeleton for the canopy at the end of the building went up.

And now it is almost finished.

Media Center

Our new computer lab!

The media center with all new furniture and shelving.

After the books were unpacked the media center began to come to life.

The reading area is still a work in progress.

The tables were enjoyed by students after the first day of school.

Plenty of tables surround the display shelves.

A seating area that overlooks the vestibule.
One of the new computer areas in the media center.

Old Hallway

The  back hallway is being demolished and rebuilt.

The exterior walls have been demolished.  Only the load-bearing walls remain.

This is the view from the end of the hallway.

This is one of two remaining murals that will be painted over.

This is the other mural.

The bulldozer takes out the remaining old cabinetry.

Interior Work

Painters were busy until the last possible minute so that our building would be ready for school.

Our wall of planets has received its coat of primer and is now completely painted.

 Preschool Playground

Mulch is being spread on the playground.

New fencing is being installed around the playground area.

The playground can be accessed from the canopy area.

Flooring

The floor tile installer worked on one of the multitude of curves that were designed into our floor patterns.

The white tile was laid outside the trophy display cases.

This is the pattern in the cafeteria (before being mopped).

This is the area in front of the display cases.

The curves extend to the entrance of our cafeteria.

Our tiles after a coat of wax.

The front vestibule shines like a new penny.

Inside the Building

One of our display cases is ready to go.

The second case is waiting for items to display.

Our front office area is almost ready to go.
This is a view from our car hall looking toward the new music room.

Our school store area is getting its share of attention.

The new stairwell is where the old entrance to the cafeteria was located.

An additional office is located where the custodial office and boys' bathroom was located off the lobby.
This new classroom was formerly the location of Mrs. Fosson's office and attached rooms.

The new gang bathrooms by the elevator are ready to use.

Deja Vu

Demolition of the back hallway has been underway while our attention was focused on the new part of the building.  It feels like deja vu.....

The outer wall of the hallway that faces the portables is well under way.  They are also currently laying the final brick.

The interior walls have been demolished.  The walls that remain are the load bearing walls.

This is the view from the end of the hallway.

One of the last of the painted murals in the building will be covered up.

Here is another mural that will be painted over.

The bulldozer is filled with remnants of old cabinetry.

Busy, Busy, Busy.....

As the days tick away, the beginning of school is almost here.  The workers are here six or seven days a week so that everything is complete in time for school.  Here are some photos of things around the building.

The back hallway has new exterior walls.

In front of the gym and to the side of the new office area will be a new classroom and student restrooms.

Work is being done on the wall that will separate the hallway from the stage area.

This is the interior of the new classroom by the gym.

This is the interior of the new student restrooms by the gym.

In the old hallway the exterior walls have been built, but there is a great deal of work to be done inside each room.

One of the electrical workers uses the small backhoe to dig a trench in a mechanical room on the bottom level.
The elevator has been installed.  If you can picture the old lobby, the new elevator door is where the glass display case used to be.
The area has been painted and the ceiling tiles installed.  The hallway is the former car hall.

Not many people realized that there was a "furnace room" located behind the stage.  The furnace has been removed and the electicians are preparing the room for its new use.

The teacher workroom/lounge is getting its fair share of bricks.

This is the site superintendent, Darren.  It was quite amusing to watch him try to get the Skyjack into the doorway with only about a 1-2" clearance on each side.
These doors are in the cafeteria and lead to the office vestibule.

The center of this wall will be home to a new stage.  A temporary wall has been put up and painted.

Floor tiles are being laid in the cafeteria. The curve pattern will match the embellishments in the ceiling.

A kindergarten room is waiting to be unpacked.

This smaller room is for our resource teachers.

Furniture has been delivered to the administrative area.

Mrs. Duffy and Mrs. Vogler are getting their area organized.  The top of the small navy counter has not yet been installed.

Ceiling tiles are being installed in the media center. Looks like a fun way to work.
The flooring has been installed.  The curved pattern matches the embellishments.

This is the entrance and the area where the check out counter will be.

Another view of the check out area.

Our computer lab is connected to the media center.  Do the windows look familiar?  This is the old office area.
